Achelousaurus horneri
1/72 scale

painted by Marc Tassone
Achelousaurus was named after a figure in Greek mythology who lost his horn. This Centrosaurine dinosaur bears a striking resemblence to its well know cousin Pachyrhinosaurus, but there are enough differences in the skull to warrant it as a different species. Like Pachyrhinosaurus, it had a large horn 'nasal boss' on its nose. This may have been used in shoving matches with rival males, or it may simply have been for display. It also possessed rugose horns above its eyes, that when viewed from above look folded like a mountain range! According to Scott Sampson, the older the animal became, its nasal boss grew taller and forward pointing, and its eye horns became 'pitted'. It was similar in size to Einiosaurus, reaching about 24 feet in length, It lived in Montana during the Late Cretaceous period. Its remains were found in a huge bonebed in the Two Medicine formation.
This one piece resin figure is 3" long and is cast separately from its base. Resin figure is $17.50 plus $1.50 s/h
